The fruit of extensive research in the historical archives, this work deals with the project to emancipate Madar? women, which was undertaken by the civil authorities and missionaries between 1900 and 1960. It deals with women's living conditions in the pre-colonial society, the methods and means used to bring about change, their impact and their limitations.

Bruno Doti Sanou, né en 1955 et de nationalité Burkinabè est licencié en sciences historiques de l'Université Catholique de Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve). Il prépare dans la même université une thèse doctorale sur l'influence politique des missionnaires dans l'ex-vicariat apostolique de Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso). Il collabore en outre à divers projets de développement au Burkina Faso.

Bruno Doti Sanou, born in 1955 and a citizen of Burkina Faso, holds the degree of licencié en sciences historiques of the Catholic University of Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve). In the same university he is preparing a doctoral thesis on the political influence of missionaries in the ex-vicariate apostolic of Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso). He is collaborating on various development projects in Burkina Faso.
